I think about what I should write about all the time on here but I just can't seem to put anything together except for all my issues. Meaning SI joint and TMJ dysfunction. Lately I go to the doctor at least once a week for one thing or the other.
My SI joint just won't stay in place. And I find it very irritating because I just don't know how to feel about it. I'm trying to accept that it's something I'm going to battle with forever probably. But at the same time, it's not anything life threatening but it's affecting my quality of life. Like I can't do anything high impact (or low impact really) or twisty. Some of the things that move me out of balance again (meaning another trip the the PT.): sweeping, vacuuming, carrying babies, riding a bike with a bike trailer, doing my PT exercises, getting into the car, . . . sometimes I can feel it move and sometimes not. I wear this SI belt to hold my pelvis together which helps the joint stabilize. It wasn't so bad having to wear it in the winter but 4 months later (it was only supposed to take 6 weeks), it's harder to hide the love handles it creates. Especially when going swimming. In fact it's impossible. I guess on the upside, the love handles could be bigger. At least I lost the baby weight. And this is the cheaper issue so far.
Turns out my Temporomandibular joint (tmj) also has issues. When I was pregnant my jaw swung out. Too much relaxin I guess. And one year later there are still problems. There's supposed to be a disk between the bones and mine has moved out of place meaning bone on bone. Which creates all sorts of horrible things if you leave it like extreme headaches, bone loss meaning your jaw recedes, tooth problems, sinus stuff, hearing loss, . . . so I have to fix it. And it's really expensive because lots of insurance plans don't cover that kind of stuff. They cover surgery which is not something you want in that kind of joint if it's not absolutely necessary because success rates aren't too high and you can get other complications. So I went with someone not in my insurance for splint therapy. So I wear these splints in my mouth (beefed up retainers) to get my jaw back in place and I have to go back every week or two to get it adjusted. But, it's the less invasive of the treatments. Got the splints yesterday. Hope they work. So if you talk to me and I slur things together and sound like I have a speech impediment, that would be the reason.
And, the kids are home for the summer. We're doing lots of fun stuff while trying to balance keeping up on school stuff and giving them down time so they don't feel like they always need to be entertained. Here's a fun family picture from the zoo. They had the coolest face painting stuff so we all did it (minus dalton).
So we're doing great. Didn't mean to unload my issues but that's the only post I kept recreating in my head. And I find the way the body works fascinating. Maybe I should have been a nurse. In school I mean. Cause either way I'd be home with my kiddos right now anyway. They're pretty fun.
